Adult-ing 101: Getting out of a rut

Hello assalamualaikum

Growing up and slowly moving into adult life there are just times where i just really don't feel like doing anything despite of the million thing in my to do list. Even if my mind is saying let's do this, my body and soul is just staying in bed. it's probably because i feel unmotivated and uninspired as if there's no reason to do anything. Well guess what ? Welcome to the RUT.

RUT

a habit or pattern of behaviour that has become dull and unproductive but is hard to change. -google

I'm not sure about everyone else, but me particularly, i've been through several cycles of these situation. Most of the time it comes after a really busy and packed week. It sometimes happens after a really long time of doing just one thing or staying in the same place for too long.

So how to get out of this rut ? these are the few things that i try to do, and it kinda helps

1. Review your dreams and goals

yeah yeah yeah, i know i know, it sound super cringey, but the magic is, this thing works the best. When i am in a rut, to force myself out of it, i would ask myself again and again, is this where you want to be, do you wnat to stay here or do you want to be a somebody, make a difference in your life and the people around you. I try to picture what i want myself to be in 1 year, in 10 years time and from there reflect back, is this the way to get to that point. So the key here is to remind yourself of your goals and dreams while also reflecting your current actions and its impact on your own future. For me personally, i would feel like a potato for a bit and then this sudden surge of change would sweep me of my feet and get me moving.

2. Write it down
being simple humans that we are, we tend to forget. Thats one thing already, the other thing is we are visual beings that need to see stuff. So yes, having goals is great, but make sure to write it down in your journal or on your wall, could be your blog if you want to. Anyways, put it somehwere that would make you remind yourself again and again of these goals. These also works great for me.

3. Make some changes
The cause of this rut could be that we're bored of something around us, so to spice it up, change thing around a bit in your room, or the way you dress, whatever it is a little change makes you feel kind of renewed. what i usually do is change up stuff in my room, rearrange it, get a fragrance, get new stuff to organize and etc. Afterwards i would feel like this is my woman cave where i will take baby steps to my dream, yada yada.

4. Just start
Last and most simple tip of all is just start. Just it down and write that article, cause starting is the hardest part, once you have succeeded in starting the work, you have already gone at least a quarter of it. At least make the cover page or whatever and without you realizing you are already up at the introduction. Same thing applies for whatever you want or need to do, just get yourself ready and by the time you realize it your already driving on the way to settle stuff.
